	Capturing something as complex as the play of light on the sitter's face or the subtlety of their features is endlessly exciting and absorbing. I like to have one or two hour-long sessions of looking at and talking to my subject, followed by loose drawings and colour studies with photographs to complete the portrait. Oils are my preferred medium for adults and either oils or watercolours for children.
